MarketView™ Report (New Research Proposal)

e-Billing and Matter Management Systems

Initiation: 04/01/2010
Publication: 07/14/2010
Analyst: RMC

Introduction

Legal electronic billing (“e-Billing”) systems offer a range of tools aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of legal spend management.   While part of the larger matter management solution set, e-Billing remains a primary focus area for both customers and vendors.

The e-Billing solution market is well established, but nascent.   The early adopter and early majority phases of the market adoption curve have produced mixed results.  While there are many successes, both technology and process requirements have challenged some e-Billing initiatives, resulting in tempered success.  Companies considering e-Billing implementations are increasingly concerned about the total cost of such systems, not only in terms of deployment but also in terms of the added burden on outside counsel.

From a vendor perspective, the market is well populated by a diverse set of functionally differentiated solutions and business models.   In selecting their e-Billing solution partners, customers must consider a number of solution features to judge their best fit – e-Billing selections can be complex.

This MarkeView Report provides a review of the market and vendor landscape for e-Billing systems. Clients are encouraged to use this report as a starting point for understanding the overall e-Billing solutions market, and to gain a broad view of their solution options.
